Overview
Nagarkot is a pine-covered ridge on the eastern rim of the Kathmandu valley, at about 2,175 m. On clear mornings the sun rises over a long line of Himalayan peaks, from the Langtang range eastward.
Kavya Resort & Spa is a villa resort on that ridge. Its spa offers Ayurvedic treatments, Himalayan salt therapy and hydrotherapy soak pools, alongside yoga and meditation pavilions and a heated infinity pool. This retreat gives you four nights there, at an easy pace.
On the way up you stop at Bhaktapur Durbar Square, the old Newar royal city. One day you walk down through villages and terraced hills to Changu Narayan, a UNESCO-listed temple with a stone inscription from the fifth century, generally regarded as the oldest temple in the valley. The other days are for yoga, the pools and treatments, and doing very little.
On the Comfort level you stay in a Junior Villa Suite; on the Luxury level in an Executive Mountain Villa. The programme is the same on both.

On the way east, a guided visit to Bhaktapur Durbar Square with its temples, palace courtyards and potters' square, then the drive up to Kavya Resort & Spa (about 1.5 hours in total from the airport, plus your Bhaktapur visit). Sunset from your villa deck.

Dates & departures
Private for you alone, a couple or your own small group, on any date. October to May usually gives the clearest sunrise views; from June to September the ridge is green and misty and the mountains are often hidden. Nights at Nagarkot are cold from November to February.
Questions, answered
Will I definitely see the Himalaya at sunrise?
Not definitely. Views depend on the weather. From October to May most mornings are clear; in the monsoon (June to September) the peaks are often in cloud. With four nights you have several chances.
How hard is the walk to Changu Narayan?
It is about 3 to 4 hours, mostly downhill on village paths and dirt tracks, so it suits anyone used to walking. The car meets you at the temple, and we can shorten the walk if you prefer.
What is the difference between Comfort and Luxury?
The programme is the same. Comfort uses a Junior Villa Suite at Kavya; Luxury uses a larger Executive Mountain Villa.
How far is Nagarkot from Kathmandu airport?
About 1.5 hours by car, depending on traffic. On Day 1 the Bhaktapur visit adds two to three hours on the way.
Which meals are included?
Breakfast every day. Lunch and dinner are at the resort or nearby at your own cost.
How is this different from your Kathmandu Valley Forest and Mindfulness Retreat?
That retreat spends three nights at Gokarna Forest Resort with Kopan Monastery and Boudhanath, then two nights at Kavya. This one keeps you at Kavya for all four nights, with Bhaktapur and Changu Narayan.
